Pair of 19th Century Chinese Cabinets
A Pair of 19th Century Chinese Cabinets or Cupboards.
Made in the late 19th century from native hardwoods, these Chinese cabinets were made for export and would have found favour with fashionable buyers of the period when the "aesthetic taste" in Europe brought a particular interest in China and Japan.
They have two tiers of display shelves and two cupboard doors below. The supporting brackets for the shelves are carved with geometric motifs and there is similar carving on the bottom aprons. Inside the cupboards are adjustable shelves and two concealed drawers. The the cupboard doors and drawers have gilded metalwork.
