A Wonderful Pair of 19th Century French Walnut Commodes.
These attractive commodes are rectangular in form, with tops veneered with straight flamed walnut, as are both sides. Each one has three drawers, one semi concealed under the top with burr walnut, and two drawers of significant depth below with fine figured bookmatched walnut and ormolu ring handles. The columnar pilasters bordering the drawer fronts have ebonised central sections with ormolu capitals and bases. These columns then lead to the square sectioned short legs and square toes which support each piece.
Having a great variety of types of veneers used, they are extremely attractive and well designed.
