18th Century Walnut and Ash Commode
SOLD
This interesting bow fronted commode is of unusual form and of small size. Having inverted corners with chamfered pilasters leading down to tapering square sectioned legs and ebonised spade feet. Curved surfaces and straight lines are combined gracefully. The beautifully figured walnut top is surrounded by gilt bronze edging and below this is a crossbanded frieze and inlaid diamonds to each pilaster. The two drawer fronts are very well bookmatched and veneered in walnut and have oval brass handles and brass lock escutcheons. The veneers have been chosen with care, with contrasting crossbanding.
