An Interesting Early 19th Century Italian Walnut Centre Table with Scagliola Top.
This lovely table has a platform stretcher base of quadripartite style with four incurving sides which are highlighted by a finely carved giltwood moulding featuring leaf work and foliage. The base stands on four flattened bun feet, each with a giltwood moulding to the centre. In the centre of the stretcher is finial which is enclosed in a ring of carved giltwood. The same design is around the top of the frieze underneath the top.
The top rests on four scrolling supports of cabriole shape and the outer edges of each of them feature additional gilded detailing.
This is quite a large but graceful piece of furniture.
