18th Century German Walnut Commode

An Interesting and Unusual 18th Century German Walnut Carved and Inlaid Commode.
An extremely fine and unusual commode which was clearly influenced both by English Sheraton period furniture and French Louis XVI styling. The commode is broadly rectangular in form with canted corners but it also incorporates breakfront detailing, the central section of the drawers and top being set forward from the sides. The top of the piece has both bookmatched burr and quarter veneered timber as a background, a panel being created by using a line of stringing. In the centre of this panel is an inlaid paterae, the same decorative detail to the drawer fronts incorporating strung panels with burr veneers and a central inlaid paterae on each drawer as well. The combination of inlay and carving is rare and is both effective and extremely attractive. Standing on flattened bun feet to the front.
A very good 18th century commode! Should be seen to be truly appreciated.
