19th Century French Empire Period Guéridon
An Early 19th Century French Empire Period Marble Topped Guéridon or Centre Table.
The marble top has a deep and unusually complex edge moulding which also continues on the sides. This is a great sign of quality and unusual attention to detail on the part of the maker and designer. The marble itself is primarily white with grey and black veining and is highly attractive, complementing the colours used in the body of the table perfectly. It is
standing on a tripartite platform base with three tapering parcel gilt columns supporting the frieze. The gilded sections of the columns have fine leaf carved detail on them whilst the plainer sections have been painted in imitation of bronze. The veneered sections of the table are executed in walnut.
