19th Century Pine Orkney Chair

A nice example of a 19th century pine Orkney chair, having a solid pine frame with arms and a typically traditional, high curved woven straw back with a pleasing shape and drop in seat. Circa 1900.
The Orkney chair has developed through local island tradition, most likely originating from a humble piece of furniture that the islanders could make for themselves with local materials that were readily available.
