18th Century French armchair by Charles François Normand. A wonderful, simply painted and simply carved chair. The stamp of authenticity is underneath. Having a high, slightly slanted back with padded back rest. The open arms have padded elbow rests. Supported by square tapering legs.
Charles François Normand was a Parisian carpenter who earned his master's degree in June 1747 and worked from his shop rue de Cléry in Paris. He no doubt stayed there until the last years of the reign of Louis XV.
