Small 18th Century French Cherry Wood Commode
A Small 18th Century French Solid Cherry Wood Commode.
This commode is a particularly interesting piece of French provincial furniture of the 18th century. It is not veneered but is constructed throughout in solid cherry wood, making it extremely solid and heavy for its size. The use of solid timber like this is very rare for this period, the piece being made in the late 18th century in the Louis XVI neoclassical style.
The commode has three equally sized drawers, all of which retain their original ormolu handles and escutcheons. It has half round and fluted pilaster columns to the sides and stands on toupie feet.
H 83cm x W 81cm x D 53cm
H 32¾” x W 32” x D 20¾”
