Late 18th Century French Walnut and Parquetry Commode
A Fine Late 18th Century French Walnut and Parquetry Commode or Chest of Drawers.
This commode was made in the Louis XVI period by a provincial furniture workshop. The lines are typical of the period and has well executed parquetry inlay throughout. The drawer fronts and the border on the top consist of a repetitive geometric pattern in contrasting light and dark woods. The centre of the top also features a circular panel with inlaid triangular border which is also echoed in the design used on the overhanging lip on the top. There are also inlaid columns to the uprights and the sides of the piece have inlaid borders which simulate panelling. It has a great mellow colour.
