Pair of 19th Century Italian Walnut Commodes
SOLD
An Interesting Pair of Mid 19th Century Italian Walnut and Burr Walnut Commodes.
These splendid commodes have influences of earlier French Empire period furniture. They were made around 1840, probably in the Piedmont region of Italy. The commodes each feature one drawer disguised in the overhanging frieze and then two inset drawers below. The frieze section is veneered in the finest burr walnut, as is the base section. The drawer fronts are veneered in bookmatched walnut that meets in the middle in a geometric butterfly-like pattern. The sides and tops are bookmatched in a more conventional way.
A very unusual model making this pair much more interesting than most.
