19th Century Italian Olive Wood Commode
SOLD
A 19th Century Italian Olive Wood Veneered Commode or Chest of Drawers.
This fine commode relies almost entirely upon highly figured bookmatched olive wood veneers for its decoration, with just a half-round moulding and a slightly overhanging top to create additional visual interest. The olive wood is of an exceptional colour with a lot of variation in tone and grain and, additionally, the two drawer fronts have been inlaid with swags, also of olive wood, and a harebell in the case of the upper drawer. As well as the two obvious drawers, there is a third narrower example disguised in the frieze.
The top of the piece is also veneered in olive wood, this time with the grain running horizontally rather than vertically, and cross banded in the same wood. The piece stands on stylised, slightly ogee, bracket feet.
H 92cm x W 133cm x D 59.5cm
