Pair of 19th Century Italian Walnut Commodes

A Very Fine Pair of Early 19th Century Italian Walnut Commodes c.1820
Of broadly rectangular shape but with sophisticated detailing throughout, these pieces employ walnut veneers of the finest quality. The bookmatched and crossbanded tops of these commodes have rounded corners, lessening the severity of the form, and each piece features beautifully turned pilasters with a variety of decorative features and inlaid contrasating stringing as well. The pilasters terminate in elongated bun or teardrop feet which are also inlaid with the same stringing, signs of great attention to detail and quality. The drawer fronts and side panels are all crossbanded and each drawer has a cast gilt metal or ormolu escutcheon plate.
