18th Century Louis XVI Period Bureau Plat

A Fine Quality French 18th Century Louis XVI period Bureau Plat or Writing Table.
This fine piece is an original 18th century example. Of classic rectangular form constructed in walnut, this piece has the fine lines associated with the furniture of this period. The table has pull out slides to each side and four outset corners from which the fluted columns descend to ormolu collars and then to tapering round sectioned legs with ormolu toupie feet. The drawer fronts, side panels and even the mock drawer fronts on the back of the piece are all accessorised with ormolu mouldings a sign of fine quality and superior workmanship. The finished back means that this piece can be freestanding.
The walnut used throughout is of superb figure and lovely colour and the gilt tooled leather inserts to the top and slides are in good condition.
This is a lovely decorative bureau plat and very difficult to find this 18th century model. A heavy, very substantial desk and should be seen to be appreciated.
