A Fine George II English Oak Bureau of Small Size with Excellent Patination and Colour.

Bureaus of this size are very desirable and seldom encountered with this patination and colour. The piece is of typical early 18th century form. The edge moulding breaking up the outline where the bureau section meets the drawers is typical of pieces made during the early years of the 18th century, as is the hardware used, consisting of drop handles and large escutcheon plates. However in our opinion the piece, being of provincial origin, likely dates to the George II period.

With the two mouldings on this bureau and the fine book stand/support on the fall front, this is a very decorative piece of furniture that is very adaptable due to its small size. The interior is nicely designed with a series of arched pigeon holes and small drawers with some interesting shaped fretted sections to either side.

A very attractive and practical piece of country furniture.
