A Small Scale 19th Century French Oak Drapers Table.
Tables of this sort were originally used to measure and cut linens and fabrics in shops and workshops and are usually of large scale. This piece is much smaller than usual. The top is figured oak, raised on two unusually shaped end supports with curving uprights. The supports are joined by a platform stretcher or under tier which gives additional storage space. Having three drawers in the frieze, the middle one has a key.
The table has acquired an excellent colour and patination.
