17th Century Spanish Walnut Table
A Very Fine and Unusual 17th Century Spanish Walnut Table Of Excellent Colour.
This rare table features a large overhanging planked top, which has acquired a beautiful bronze-like colour and patination, above a three drawer frieze on simple square sectioned legs. Featuring extremely accomplished geometric carving. The wavy apron to the bottom of the frieze, carved with smaller versions of the same motifs as used on the drawer fronts and sides. The table is carved and finished all round.
Pieces of this sort were known as Conventuelle, or console tables. It has aged gracefully and will continue to become more beautiful as it is used further, the scars from everyday use adding further to the glorious patina and colour.
