Late 18th/Early 19th Century Octagonal Guéridon with Marble Top

An Exceptional Quality French late 18th or Early 19th Century Guéridon.
Of octagonal shape with inset marble top of distinctive figure, the table is veneered primarily in satinwood with amaranth banding. The top and base of the stem feature ormolu mounts and the quality throughout is superb. The tripod base continues the same amaranth and satinwood scheme with the mock fluting on the stem and the cross banded legs and feet employing the highly decorative combination of the two contrasting woods.
Although it is not possible to attribute this fine table to a particular maker as the designer cannot be identified with certainty at this stage, its design indicates a top workshop.
