19th Century French mahogany circular top guéridon. The fabulous top inset with high quality pieces of specimen marble in geometrical patterns, and a central inlaid marble bird on a tree, surrounded by ebonised inlay. Supported by a superb hexagonal moulded baluster column, standing on three S-shaped legs.
This is an excellent example of specimen marble. Specimen tables have a long history. In general they emerged in Italy in the 18th Century, before taking on new forms of decorative craft production, featuring inlaid hardstone, in the 19th Century.
