18th Century Louis XVI French Walnut Commode
SOLD
A Late Louis XVI or Early Empire Period French Walnut Commode. Circa 1800.
This handsome commode combines aspects of the Louis XVI taste with those of the Empire period. The fine ormolu escutcheon plates with their flowing cornucopias are also in that taste. Great quality timber has been used to veneer it, and that timber is matched extremely well. The top and sides consist of bookmatched panels creating geometric patterns with the grain. The timber on the top in particular has been chosen perfectly. The drawer fronts are equally beautifully handled.
