Small 18th Century English Oak Dresser Base
SOLD
A Small Scale Late 18th Century English Oak Dresser Base with Chinoiserie Brackets in the "Chinese Chippendale" Style.
An excellent and unusual model dresser base that has clearly been influenced both by the work of Thomas Chippendale and Thomas Sheraton. Sheraton's influence can be seen in the slim and elegant tapering square section legs. Chippendale, however, was clearly the inspiration for the "Chinese" fretwork brackets on the apron. The small drawer in the lower apron is also a feature that is not commonly encountered in pieces of this sort. Having excellent quality timber, with beautiful figure and fine colour. The two large drawers having swan's neck handles.
A really lovely piece of oak furniture.
