A Bold mid-20th Century, Ivorian Senufo, mounted hand woven cotton Korhogo cloth, depicting animal figures.
Korhogo cloths are woven of cotton in narrow strips, stitched together, and painted with naturally pigmented mud. The cloths are used by the Senufo to shield against vengeful spirits by wearing or hanging them in the home. Many are decorated with symbols of humans, natural elements like the sun, moon and stars and animals, all are rooted in Senufo culture and mythology.
